REPORTS TO: Lead Asphalt Repair Specialist/Truck Driver 

 

(90 Day Contract)

 

SUMMARY:

Assist with necessary maintenance and repair of asphalt roads.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Drives assigned truck to all areas or projects as needed.
  • Ability or willingness to learn of hot and cold mix asphalt and crack fill. Repairs asphalt bad spots on road system.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to calculate quantities of material needed for each job.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to operate skid steer, milling head cutter, crack fill machine, and asphalt roller.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to haul, dump and spread necessary road materials.
  • Logs truck use, materials hauled and material destinations.
  • Maintains assigned truck and reports problems to mechanics. Logs truck problems.
  • Ability to set up work zone safety signs.
  • Assists with repair and maintenance of bridges and guardrails.
  • Operates other equipment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma/GED or current student
  • Trainee willing to learn
  • Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance.
  • Possesses knowledge to safety operate and maintain vehicles used
  • Willingness to operate heavy equipment in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold for extended periods
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cue
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be available to work the assigned: M-F, 7:00A-3:30P
  • Must be reliable, punctual and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation
  • A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment as evidence by positive employment references from current/previous employers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two to three years of related experience

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: 

  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with others, including members of the public
  • Ability to maintain high level of privacy and confidentiality of individuals and families
  • Ability to operate general office equipment, including but not limited to: 10-key calculator, telephone, computer and operating systems, computer software programs (Microsoft Office programs), fax/copier machine
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to work efficiently in a highly team-team oriented environment
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, deadline oriented environment
  • Attend out-of-state/out-of-town training periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration
  • Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
  • range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 50 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday
  • Safety judgments: Watching out for power lines, load weight and vehicular traffic Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls
