Applications are now being accepted for a four (4) Social Services Advisory Board Positions

The mission of the Social Services Advisory Board is to establish tribal standards that serve the best interests of our Indian children and their families by assuring that the Social Work Approaches of the Nation reflect the unique societal values of Indian culture and acknowledges the tribe's inherent authority in defining its own culture, laws and customs.

The Board is organized to make recommendations, consult with, and to review as needed and requested, the policies and procedures of the programs within that Nation's Social Services Department. The Board will not interfere with the day-to-day operations of the Social Services Department in anyway, nor will the Board have access to confidential records. The Board does not provide oversight of the Social Services Department. The Board shall meet with Tribal Council on not less than a quarterly basis. The time and date of these meetings shall be determined and agreed upon by both the Board and Tribal Council.

Duties (not a complete list):

  • Provide policy recommendations for integrating cultural values and traditional activities into the department mission, goals, and Social Work Approaches;
  • Review existing foster care standards, child protection team procedures, and available statistics and data identifying number of court cases, removals from families, foster home placements, guardianship/adoption cases, out of state court cases, and other information pertinent affecting the custody of Indian children and their families;
  • Provide Leadership opportunities and activities geared towards Indian families and youth.

Desirable candidates are individuals who are willing to provide community service as a natural resource and to serve as an advocate for abused and neglected children.

**Appointed Board members are subject to a background check performed by the PBPN Human Resources Department.
